Welcome to a new season on BC Soccer Web!

Welcome to a new season of soccer in British Columbia!

It seems like an odd thing to say in September, as it’s always tough to tell when one season ends and another begins around here. It’s been like that in the south coast of BC for a long time. Back in the 1920s, a coach from the States wrote one the Vancouver newspapers to ask when the best time would be to bring his team up for a friendly. The answer he got was “If you can plan to be here some point between Sept.1 and August 31, we can get you a game.” So it remains today.

With the new season comes a few changes as the new BC Soccer Web continues to evolve. I’m pleased to share them with you today.

First, we’re happy to bring back two highly-requested features from the old website: Feature Games & the BC Soccer Directory.

Every Tuesday, BC Soccer Web will give you a selection of the best matches worth catching that week. Whether it’s MLS, CIS, or the adult premier leagues, BC Soccer Web will show you the best places this season to support local soccer!

We’ve been wanting to bring back the BC Soccer Directory ever since our relaunch in April. That proved to be easier said than done, as the list had become out of date over the years. We’ve done our best to catch up with all of the new websites, leagues and merged clubs that have popped up over the years. We really need your help in keeping the list up to date. If you’d like to add your team, club or league’s website, please email us.

We’re also launching an exciting new initiative in our sports photography. As regular visitors to BC Soccer Web know, our photographers cover a wide range of soccer played in British Columbia. From MLS & National teams at BC Place to rainy VMSL November nights at Cloverdale, our photos have long been one of the most popular sections of the site. Our photographers constantly receive requests for photos from players & their families, and we’re now making this a lot easier. Starting next week, you’ll be able to purchase hi-resolution digital photo downloads from the amateur matches we shoot. You’ll also be able to book a BC Soccer Web photographer for your team’s match or practice at an affordable rate. Of course, we’ll continue to provide our photo coverage of selected matches from the adult premier leagues throughout the season. Being able to hire a BC Soccer Web photographer for your team’s match adds a special touch to the game and will give your players a memory to last a lifetime.

Of course, our FREE Classifieds will continue to be the best place to find a team or find a player in the province. This Fall is also a good time to think about advertising your business with BC Soccer Web. No one reaches the BC Soccer community like we do, and we continue to grow every month!

Finally, we want your news! We rely heavily on the news contributions of our readers and those involved in the game. Send us your match reports, articles and press releases. We’ll do our part to spread the word.

That’s all for now. Let’s lace ‘em up and get at it! Good luck to everyone this season, and be sure to visit BC Soccer Web every day to keep up with the B.C. soccer scene!

Yours in Sport,

Bill Currie
