VISL Previews – March 6-8, 2020

While 1 of the 4 major VISL Cups (George Pearkes Challenge Cup) is still in 1/4 Final stage this weekend, 1 Cup has its finalists (George Smith U21 Cup), and 2 Cups (Tony Grover Masters & Jackson Cup) have a week off to get ready for semi’s. All Finals are set for Saturday March 21 at Westhills.

The top flight; Division 1, still has a little bit of unfinished business this weekend for divisional play – and there is plenty on the line.

Here are the 2 games that have so much importance:

-Early Saturday, Cowichan travels to Powell River. The Villa squad will need the full 3 points if they want a chance to stay up in the 1st Division next year.
This will be a tough match for the home squad as Cowichan will look to clinch a spot in BC Soccer’s Provincial Cup.
Timberlane Park should be busy and the locals will be out in full force.

-Saturday evening is the other half of the equation where Juan de Fuca will look to earn at least 1 point against Bays United.
Should they earn that 1 point, they are guaranteed to stay up in the 1st Division.
Bays will also be looking for those points as they too need to qualify for Provincial Cup.

Plenty on the line in both games obviously.

Here are the standings going into the weekend which show the race at both ends of the table.

So while the Jackson Cup teams have a break for a week, no doubt that the teams involved this weekend have plenty to worry about.

Should be an interesting weekend on the pitch.

Thanks for supporting your community people and grassroots soccer.
