VISL Division 1 Results and Standings, Week 8

Another weekend in the books in the Island Leagues top division – Division 1.

As promised, it was a weekend that lived up to excitement expectations….. with a little bit of everything.

Here is a quick snapshot of what took place, in our 8th edition of the weekend wrap up.

-Friday opened up with Lakehill slipping by Vic West by score of 1-0.
Lakehill carried much of the play, but not a lot of quality chances on goal.
Their lone goal was scored by veteran Blair Sturrock, and Hardeep Gahunia earned the shutout.

-Friday saw an undefeated record extended and an undefeated record come to an end as Gorge defeated Bays Utd by score of 2-1.
Gorge goals were scored by Lorik Maksuti and Nils Webber.
The lone marker for Bays was scored by Rhys Foster.

-From Merle Logan Turf in Nanaimo, Westcastle defeated Nanaimo by score of 4-2.
Westcastle goals by Boland Lekeaka, Keenen Colley, a Nanaimo own goal, and Mahdi Hammoud.
Scoring 2 goals for Nanaimo was Caleb Nwameme.

-In Ladysmith on Saturday, Juan de Fuca earn 3 points in a strange way as Mid Isle forfeit the match to them.
It goes down as a 3-0 result.

-The final game of the weekend saw Cowichan blank Powell River by score of 2-0.
Cowichan goals by Russell Lederer and Joel Harry.
Earning his 3rd straight shutout was keeper Darian Achurch.

After all the results are entered, here is what the standings look like, we have some changes.
New leaders at the top as Lakehill sneak by Bays.
Cowichan jumps up quite a bit, with Westcastle nipping at their heals.
The Gorge win does not look as impressive as you would think as the 5 draws keep them in the middle of the division.
In what has been a surprising year for Nanaimo – they now find themselves in the relegation zone with Mid Isle.

Not a crazy amount of goals over the weekend, but enough to see a change in leader board again.
Here is what that looks like.
An exciting weekend that has shaken up the division some.
The looking ahead to next week has already started as we approach the mid way point of the season.
Thanks for supporting local grass roots soccer.
