The VISL Game Of The Week was from Division 2 and it had Westcastle hosting Vantreights in a battle of teams for 2nd place in the division. The game was at Westhills and it was a 1-0 win for the Vantreights.

A scoreless game till the 85th minute when Lucas Jacob swung in a corner kick that looked like Westcastle was not ready for. The Keeper was only able to get a hand on it before it was into the net.

Lots of action throughout the game. Both teams had several chances.  Westcastle were led by veteran player Steve Gately who played several different positions on the night. The story of the night – the superb Goalkeeping from Vantreight’s Ryan Elborne.  He made several incredible saves to give the Vantreights the opportunity to win the game late. He was the 1550’s game MVP.

Vantreights are now in 2nd place chasing a very strong Cowichan Utd team while Westcastle drop down to 4th.

A good representation of Division 2 soccer on the Island.
