VISL Division 1 Listings, Week 1

The Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) is back in full swing this upcoming weekend.

With the added Island Pro team in Pacific FC, there is no shortage of soccer action on the Island, and there is no doubt that players are motivated.

Our top flight, Division 1, has the following games on tap for the weekend:

Many questions to ask in starting out the year.

-Will Nanaimo and Vic West regain their form from 2 years ago?
-Will a loaded up Lakehill team start strong and finish strong?
-Will Bays Utd keep up with the rest of the pack?
-How will the 2 promoted teams in Powell River & Juan De Fuca do?
-Will Mid Isle & Gorge pick up from their disappointing last season?
-Can Cowichan be a 6 time repeat of the Garrison Cup (Div 1 Champion)
-Will the Westcastle group get back to the big dance?

We obviously look forward to the weekend and answering these questions and more.

Our Game Of The Week should be a beauty.

Besides being a League game, it will also double up as the Cup Winners Cup.

Playing for a trophy that originated from 1904, it is in its 2nd year of competition.

It is the reigning Jackson Cup Champion Westcastle, hosting the Division 1 Champion Cowichan.

In coordination with the other 2 amateur soccer sport groups on the Island, it will symbolize the opening weekend.
All 3 groups working together to showcase the best of their respective leagues.

The Women’s league (LIWSA) will have Saanich Fusion vs Lakehill at 10:30 AM
The Youth League (LISA) will have a U-14 BCSPL girls match featuring Island team VI Wave vs Mainland team Fusion FC at 12:30 PM.
Our men’s League (VISL) will have the mentioned Cowichan vs Westcastle game at 2:30 PM.
All games are at Royal Athletic Park (RAP) and all are free entry.

Thanks for supporting local soccer, local people, and local sport.
See you at the park.
