Finally, the weekend has arrived, the weekend that all amateur soccer players want to be a part of in the local soccer scene – the Cup Finals.
2 days, 4 games total.
Here is how the weekend lines up:
The first game on Saturday will have the defending champion Gorge Us-Guys vs the first time attendees – Hellas FC
This will be a battle, and we will witness plenty of passion out on the field and on the benches.
Teams saw each other during the year twice – both times it was a tie. That will not be the case today.
The 2nd game on Saturday will be for the Under 21 lads.
No stranger to the Finals Mid isle, vs first time appearing and new team Castaways FC.
Mid Isle will be strong, but Castaways will bring the support.
Moving on to Sunday, the first game up is the Masters match.
It is a repeat from last years Final.
Cowichan is bringing an almost perfect record to the game, while Gorge is looking for a chance to claim back what they think is rightfully theirs.
We are looking forward to this game.
Our final game of the weekend is for the 104 year old Jackson Cup.
It is our longest standing Cup competition – from 1915.
It has first time attending Westcastle United. A group of very young players, mostly teenagers, making their first time appearance.
They will face a team that has been on the rise in the 2nd half of the season – Bays United Liquor Plus.
They last won the trophy in 2013.
This has the makings of being a very special match.
This is the only series of games that there is an admission charge for – it goes towards the expenses of the Cup Finals weekend.
Tickets are $5.00 at the gate of Royal Athletic Park. Kids 12 and under are free.
Hope to see you continuing to support local soccer.
