Kamloops will once again be the centre of attention in the sport of soccer this weekend as the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association plays host to the Thompson-Okanagan Youth Soccer League (TOYSL) playoffs.
Boys and girls district select teams from U13 to U18 will be competing for berths in BC Soccer’s Provincial “A” and “B” Cup Competitions being held July 9-12.
Sponsored by Booster Juice, the tournament will involve 40 teams from the region’s five soccer centres competing in “B” Cup play: Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Penticton and host Kamloops. Revelstoke, with an infant soccer organization that is steadily growing and becoming more competitive each year, is also a member of TOYSL, but chooses not to compete in the playoffs.
There will also be six matches featuring teams from Prince George taking on the Kamloops Blaze for berths in the Provincial “A” Cup finals in Surrey.
Qualifying matches are being played Friday and Saturday (June 19/20). Finals in each division are being held on Sunday (June 21).
The majority of the matches are being played on McArthur Island. In a few divisions, some games are being staged closer to the home of the two qualifying teams to cut down on travel costs.
Kamloops has three entries in the “A” Cup and six teams challenging for Interior “B” Cup berths in the Provincial Cup competitions.
