Coming off a successful opening weekend with a win and a draw, Highlanders FC have strengthened their roster with the arrivals of Ryan Ashlee, Paulo Diat and Spencer MacKinnin from various locales across the continent along with Paddy Nelson, Cooper Barry, and Craig Norman following their provincial cup run with Cowichan FC.
Highlanders coach, David Dew knows there is work ahead. “We continue to build the squad and work at training to understand the playing philosophy that will give us our identity this season”, noted Dew. “It was great to have our never- say-die attitude secure a late tie and a winner last weekend. That character is a great base to build from”.
Highlanders FC currently sit atop the league standings and continue their five game home stand with two games this weekend. Tim Horton’s Pinnacles of Penticton. (Saturday, May 9th, 4pm kick-off); and FC Tigers of Vancouver (Sunday, May 10th, 2pm kick-off) provides the opposition.
The Pinnacles return to the Pacific Coast Soccer League following a seven year absence. They got off the right foot in Vancouver last weekend with a 3:1 victory versus FC Tigers and fell 3:0 on Sunday to Vancouver Thunderbirds. Pinnacles’ Isaac Koch is the current goal scoring leader in the PCSL two goals. FC Tigers will be looking to keep the Highlanders within their sights as Sunday’s contest will be their second in the league. The new entry into the PCSL, FC Tigers possess many individual skilled players who are keen on possessing the ball and have a flair for creativity.
With back to back contests again this weekend, Highlanders General Manager, Marvin Diercks knows it is important for the fans and supporters to help lift the team with their emotion and collective voices to a resounding result.
