Report and Reaction: Vancouver Whitecaps lose Matias Laba to PRO plague but hold on for draw against LA – AFTN
Another Saturday, another Vancouver Whitecaps suspension. It’s gone so far beyond farcical now that even the opposition managers are moaning about the red cards being dished out. It’s not completely clear what Major League Soccer is trying to achieve with the “every imperfect challenge is a red card” policy but if it’s to make games less enjoyable for the people who pay good money to go to the stadiums and for those who are watching on TV then it’s been a roaring success.

The Whitecaps made the best of a bad situation on Saturday night, playing to a scoreless draw with the LA Galaxy. Laba’s ejection is likely to be the big talking point coming from the game. Some will argue that the decision is overly harsh, while others will say the call is in line with other red cards given so far this season. Regardless, it’s another tough blow for Vancouver, who have already had another player sent off during a game and two additional players given suspensions by the MLS Disciplinary Committee in 2016.
