Canada Soccer’s Christine Sinclair stands apart from every other footballer in the history of the game after breaking the world’s all-time international goalscoring record. The Canadian captain scored her record-breaking 185th goal on Wednesday 29 January at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in Edinburg, Texas.

Twenty years and eight months had passed with an American boasting the distinction – first Mia Hamm and, since 2013, Abby Wambach. However, Sinclair found the bottom corner from the penalty spot against St. Kitts and Nevis to tie the latter’s record, before a predatory goal moved her into outright sovereignty on 185 goals.

Christine Sinclair scored her first international goal for Canada at the 2000 Algarve Cup in a 2-1 loss to Norway. The Burnaby, BC native was just 16 at the time and playing in only her second game with the senior team.

Penticton & PCSL revives Kennedy Cup Tournament for 2020 – BC Soccer Web
The John F. Kennedy Cup has a unique history amongst North America’s trophies for soccer. Founded in 1960, the Kennedy Cup was the first (and only) sporting trophy to be sanctioned by the late President of the United States. It also was the base for some of the first meaningful matches between clubs from British Columbia’s PCSL, California, Oregon, Washington and Mexico. When President Kennedy was assassinated in November, 1963, it was one of the few sporting events in the United States to take place that month with the family’s blessing.
