BC Soccer celebrates 2016-17 award winners – CSA
Connor Hildebrandt and Rheanne Sleiman were honoured as BC Soccer’s Adult Players of the Year. Both players helped their respective teams reach the BC Cup provincial finals in May, with Hildebrandt starring for Aldergrove United and Sleiman captaining North Shore Girls SC.

Vancouver, BC: The BC Soccer Annual General Meeting took place Saturday, June 10, 2017 and amongst the highlights was the election of three new BC Soccer board members: John Charlton (Vancouver Island), Ralph Luongo (Lower Mainland), and Justus Mirembe (Lower Mainland). Each of these new directors bring a wealth of soccer and sport specific experience ranging from playing and coaching to risk management and strategic thinking.

Development Academy Playoffs: 23 clubs qualify in both age groups – Soccer America
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-15/16 and U-17/18 playoffs take place June 22-26 at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. In each age group, 32 of 74 DA clubs qualified. Twenty-three clubs qualified teams in both age groups. (Editor’s Note: Whitecaps Residency are one of the teams that qualified.)
THURSDAY: Vancouver Southsiders Burger & Beer Fundraiser – Southsiders
As some of you may know, one of our most ardent flag-wavers, Aidan, was injured during a Southsiders rec league match almost a year ago. As a result of the injury, he’s been unable to work for over 10 months and is facing an indeterminate amount of time off based on the outcome of his upcoming surgery, scheduled for June 20th. Tickets for this event are $20 and include a burger (beef or veggie) and a beer. We will also be accepting cash donations. All proceeds from this event will go to Aidan’s recovery fund.

Canada’s 2026 World Cup bid to look clearer in August – TSN
The clock is already ticking on the 2026 World Cup bid. Canadian soccer officials, along with their U.S. and Mexican partners, will find out in August whether they face competition to host the FIFA men’s showcase. Guidelines for the bid will be sent soon after that and the CONCACAF group will have to submit its proposal next March.

Connaught Series: Montréal Grand Trunk FC win first title after Great War – CSA
After losing in the 1915 semi-finals, Montréal Grand Trunk FC waited four years to get another shot at the Dominion of Canada Football Championship. While the city and provincial competitions continued, there was no national competition for three years as the Great War suspended the Connaught Series until 1919. When the competition resumed after the War, things fell in place for the railway team as they both hosted and won the Championship.

Every touch or significant moment from soccer legend Didier Drogba took center stage during Saturday’s USL debut for Phoenix Rising FC. After compiling several chances, Drogba delivered his first league goal – a 40th-minute header – and assisted Shaun Wright-Phillips’ second-half tally as Rising FC earned a 2-1 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in front of a sellout crowd of 7,062 at Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.
