World Cups Youth Soccer Festival Partners with Peninsula Co-op

Press Release

Victoria, BC – January 25, 2016

The World Cups Youth Soccer Festival organizing committee are pleased to announce that Peninsula Co-op will be the title partner for the 2016 edition of one of Victoria’s longest serving youth soccer tournaments.

On Easter Weekend (March 25-27), 2016, youth from across Greater Victoria will come together for three days of play, laughter, and fun in a tournament where the love for the beautiful game is the ultimate motivation. The event will take place at Lochside Park in the hub of Victoria.

Established in 1986, the event was put on hold in 2007, and has been now revived for 2016. “It’s so wonderful to see us be able to bring this event back to our soccer community,” stated Saanich Fusion President Barrie Keefe. “It’s exciting to see all the youth of today be able to partake in something that was so special for so many people before.”

Players who register for the World Cups are randomly placed into teams based on their age groups and gender. This unique approach makes for a truly memorable event for all participants as it fosters fair play and creates an opportunity for new friendships to grow. These are important values which were a key reason why Peninsula Co-op saw value in supporting the event. “We believe that the power of sport brings people together which in turn creates happy and healthy communities” stated Penny Sopel, Director of Marketing for Peninsula Co-op. “This event has been a staple of the local soccer community for 20 years and we are so very proud to be able to support the organizing committee in bringing this great event back once again.”
