VISL Jackson Cup Results

Wow, what a weekend – it had a little bit of everything.
Upsets, severe wind, rain, red cards, Penalty Kicks…….t’was an exciting weekend.

Here is the updated draw after all the scores have been reported:

-Friday started out with a bang as bottom of the division Prospect Lake took out a top team in Lakehill Division 2 by score of 2-1.
Prospect Lake finished the game with 9 players, so there will be more to this story for sure.
Scoring for PL was Dan Cummings, and Cody Fitzsimmons.
Replying for Lakehill was Drew Brittain.

-In an all Division 1 matchup in Duncan, Lakehill shutout Cowichan by score of 2-0.
Scoring both goals for Lakehill was Jon Shah.
Earning the clean sheet was Hardeep Gahunia.

-The last game on Friday night, another all Division 2 matchup, saw Gorge United take out Fernwood by score of 3-1.
Gorge goals by Dan Paton-Cavanagh, Lukasz Deron, and Iker Navas.
Adding the solo for Fernwood was Ydrisa DaSilva.

-Saturday started out with Vic West going to Powell River and defeating Villa by score of 2-0.
Vic West goals by Ben Chamberlain and Fergus Hall.
Ben Chamberlain also providing the clean sheet shutout.

-Saturday saw another shutout as Nanaimo Division 1 blanked Saanich Fusion Division 2 by score of 3-0.
Nanaimo goals – Jonathan McKenzie, and Shun Takano with 2.
Keeping SF off the board was Nanaimo Keeper Geoff Hackett.

-Saturday saw the biggest upset of the weekend as Division 2 Comox Valley United came to Saanich and stunned Gorge by score of 1-0.
The loan goal scorer of the game was Comox’s Angus Hayman.
Earning the shutout for the North Islanders was youth permitted player Tyler Griffith.

-The last game of Saturday saw Westcastle put down Mid Isle by score of 7-1.
Scoring for Westcastle was Stuart Klenner, Sean Young, Boland Lekeaka, Goteh Ntignee with 2, and Kadin Martin-Pereux with 2.
Spoiling the shutout bid and scoring for Mid Isle was Peter Cooper with 2 minutes left in the match.

-The final game of the weekend was an all Division 2 match that saw Penalty Kicks.
After 90′, the score was 2-2. After 120′, the score was 3-3. After Penalty Kicks, Highlanders were victorious and narrowly escaped another huge upset.
They defeated bays United by score of 4-3.

This will move the tournament right into Quarter Finals next weekend, 3 games on Saturday, and 1 late on Sunday.
More excitement to come again as local soccer players and teams strive for the most prestigious of trophies on the Island – the Jackson Cup.
