Here is how Thanksgiving weekend played out in VISL Division 1 League play.
-Our Game Of The Week was Lakehill hosting Mid Isle.
A 1st half dominated by Lakehill, a 2nd Half dominated by Mid Isle, a late goal by former Lakehill now Mid Isle player Dan Citra = a Mid Isle 2-1 win.
An entertaining game to take in. Both teams showing that they will be contenders as the year unfolds.
Lakehills goal by Diego Villavicencio, while Chris Merriman added in a gorgeously converted free kick for Nanaimo’s goal that tied the match.
Citra’s goal coming at 87′ and allowed Mid Isle to take all 3 points.
-Gorge travelled up to Nanaimo to take on the the undefeated United squad.
A Gorge Own Goal was the only goal of the game and allowed the Nanaimo lads to stay atop the division with a 1-0 win.
Another shutout for the Nanaimo team – this time Rob Cochrane earning it.
-In the biggest shocker of the weekend, Cowichan hosted Bays United and defeated the Oak Bay squad by score of 3-1.
Cowichan in a big rebuild year after losing players to other teams, had an extra ordinary effort to defeat a team that some considered to be one of the tops of the division.
Cowichan goals by Jordan Korven, Colin Knight, and Govinda Innes.
Bays goal was by Cooper Barry.
-Final matchup of the weekend was Fernwood vs Vic West, and the greens shut out the cross catchment rivals by score of 3-0.
Vic West goals by Dylan Kirk, Derek deGroot, and youth callup Salem Almardy
Nolan Wirth had the clean sheet for Vic West team.
Here are the standings after 4 weeks of play.
Nanaimo & Cowichan remain undefeated.
