VISL Division 1 Results & Standings, Week 12

Week 12 of the top flight of amateur soccer is complete from the weekend.
Division 1, for the first time this year, went a weekend with the favorite team winning.
Sure, there was a couple scares, but at the end of 90 minutes of play, the higher ranked team was victorious in all matches.
Being dubbed as separation weekend, here is a snapshot of what took place.

-Cowichan started Friday by blanking Division 1 newcomers Juan de Fuca by score of 4-0.
Another clean sheet for Cowichan Keeper Darian Achurch.
Scoring the goals for Cowichan were Craig Gorman, Steven Zoric, and newcomer Grayson Chalifoux had 2.

-On a chili Friday night at Westhills, Bays were able to sneak by Nanaimo by score of 4-2.
Bays goals were by Patrick Nelson, Matteo Ventura, Jose Sagaste, and Adam Ravenhill.
Nanaimo’s 2 goals were scored by Caleb Nwameme, and Colin Jacques.

-Saturday’s business got started with the top (Lakehill) facing the bottom (Mid Isle) – the top won 4-2
Lakehill goals by Evan Libke, Wesley Barrett, and Matthew Olaka with 2.
Mid Isle responded with 2 goals by Jacob Ready.

-Saturday saw Gorge put their undefeated record on the line vs Powell River, and they blanked them 5-0.
Gorge goals by Zakaria Bougraine, Arbnor Jusufi, Nils Webber, Brennen McCleary, and Martin Trapero.
Earning the shutout for Gorge, in just his 2nd game with the team, permitted youth player Levi Verch.

-The final game of the weekend also had undefeated squad Westcastle defeat Vic West by score of 3-1.
Westcastle goals by Keenen Colley, Elliot Cuthbert, and Goteh Ntignee.
The lone Vic West marker was scored by Salem Almardy.

So after all 5 games were entered into the system, here are the current standings.
Separation was the key this weekend as the top 5 did in fact separate from the bottom 5.
The top 5 looks identical as all those teams took max points.
The bottom stayed the same, just had their goal differential inflated a bit.

Several players had good individual efforts this past weekend, and here is how the goal scoring leader-board looks after 12 weeks. A logjam with 4 different players with 9 goals, and also having 3 players with 8 goals.

A newer stat this season, Keepers and their shutouts.
Here is the clean sheet situation with the tenders.

Our first “standard” result weekend of the year.
It definitely sets up next weekend’s matches – especially as both undefeated teams meet up.
Enjoy the week, and hope to see you at the park next weekend.
