The wet weekend has come to a close, thankfully we have turf fields or else many games would have been cancelled as we saw a lot of rain this weekend. Week 10 lived up to it’s expectations as many games had a big impact on current standings.
Here is a quick snapshot of the results.
-Friday night started out with a bang as Cowichan hosted Westcastle in what was deemed the Game Of The Week.
It ended in a 1-1 draw, with a couple red cards, and the promise that a possible next game for these 2 teams would be very interesting. Westcastle goal was scored by Sean Young, while Blaze Roberts had the Cowichan marker.
Game MVP was Jordan Korven of Cowichan, noted for his excellent play on the back-line, especially when the team went down to 10 men in the 47th minute.
-Another pairing of top 2 teams battled, and this match took place at Oak Bay High where Lakehill got some revenge by defeating Bays Utd by score of 2-0. Lakehill goals were slotted by Blair Sturrock and Nicholas Pineda-Graham.
Earning the shutout by Hardeep Gahunia for the Lakehill squad.
-Friday night also saw undefeated Gorge defeat Mid Isle by score of 4-1.
Gorge goals were by Nils Webber, Arbnor Jusifi, and a pair by Zakaria Bougraine.
Mid Isle’s marker was by Benjamin Robson.
-Saturday saw the divisions 1st goal free game of the season as Juan de Fuca & Powell River battled to 0-0.
JDF Keeper Taylor Johnson earned the shutout. Powell River keeper Matt Liknes with another solid effort to record the clean slate as well.
-The last game of the weekend saw Vic West slip past Nanaimo Utd by score of 3-2.
Vic West goals by Kieran Large, Salam Almardy, and Liam Wirth.
Scoring for Nanaimo was Louis Harrison and Caleb Nwameme.
All games entered into the database, and here are how the standings turned out:
Lakehill’s win pushes them into 1st place, with the slimmest of margins over Gorge, Westcastle, and Cowichan, who are nipping at their heals.
The Bays loss pushes them into 5th place, slightly ahead of Vic West who picked up 3 valuable points.
JDF and Powell River separated ever so slightly from both Nanaimo and Mid Isle who are resting in the relegation zone.
****Both Gorge & Westcastle are still undefeated and Westcastle has 1 game in hand to play.
Lower scores than the start of the season, but the leader board has changed once again as Blaze Roberts assumes the position on top.
Here is how all the rest follow.
