The light at the end of the tunnel for Division 1 league play is visible as we enter match week 17.
Here is what the Island’s top flight of amateur men’s soccer has on tap for this weekend:
-First up Friday is our Game of the Week as Gorge FC host Bays Utd at Hampton.
Kickoff has been adjusted for a 7 PM start.
While both teams will finish top 5, they will look to finish as high as possible in order to guarantee a BC Soccer Provincial Cup berth.
-Saturday houses the rest of the divisional games, and it starts at Timberlane Park where Powell River will look to take out a streaking Cowichan side.
The bumblebees are also looking to finish high in the standings while Powell River are looking to vault out of relegation zone.
-Juan de Fuca host Mid Isle, and that game is pretty big for JDF as they look to stay clear of the relegation zone.
The Mid Isle fate has been determined, so they will battle to get a result.
-Vic West will look to play spoiler as they host division leaders Lakehill at Finlayson.
The Greens will try to get something going against their cross town rivals, but will be in tough.
The Reds look to earn 3 points, and in doing so, would only need another 3 to guarantee their 1st ever Garrison Cup championship.
-Westcastle will look to keep their outside chances of winning the league open, but they will need to defeat a surging Nanaimo squad.
Saturdays final game will be in Langford at Westhills Stadium at 8 pm.
In case you have forgotten, here are the standings as we head into the last 3 weeks of league play:
Should be an interesting Superbowl weekend of soccer on the Island. Thankfully we have turf.
Thanks for supporting local grassroots soccer.
