VISL Division 1 & Jackson Cup Previews, February 14-16

T’is the time of year where the “2nd Season” comes into play.
All VISL teams are involved in respective Cup run, their version of playoffs.
Teams will battle it out in a bracket type draw which will see teams eliminated when they lose, for many – marking the end of their season.

Our most historic Cup, a sterling silver Cup from 1914/1915 is the Sir John Jackson Cup. This competition is between the 2 top flights – division 1 & 2.

It was first brought into play and commissioned by the construction company that built Ogden Point – The Jackson Construction Company.

Over the years, it has seen and been part of many a story; from the war years, through depressions, expansion, new millennium, 100 year anniversary, laughter, tears, and beers.

This years draw is a special one.

4 games happening in the play in round this weekend, here is an overview:

-Cowichan starts things off as they host JDF on Friday.
-Many eyes will be on the Nanaimo D1 vs Bays D1 game in Nanaimo on Saturday – that will be a tough match early on – especially as Nanaimo is coming on strong the last month.
-Also on Saturday, Gorge D2 will host Nanaimo D2.
-The play in round wraps up will another all D2 matchup as Lakehill host Hellas.

Besides the 4 Jackson Cup games, we will also have a few make up games for division 1 to play.

There is still relegation implications as well as BC Provincial Cup berths on the line.

Here is what is on tap there:

Saturday is a busy one.

Can Powell River defeat Mid Isle to keep their stay in div 1 a possibility?

Can Gorge defeat Vic West and get into a potential Provincial Cup berth spot?

Will Westcastle finish the league season off with a bang and win over the division champs?

Here is the table, see what you think.

Thanks for supporting people in your community and local grass roots soccer.
