The BC Soccer Annual General Meeting took place Saturday June 11, 2016 and amongst the highlights was the election of Kjeld Brodsgaard (Victoria) as the new BC Soccer President. Kjeld brings a wealth of soccer and sport specific experience as he has been a BC Soccer board member for the past seven years with his most recent position as the 1st Vice President.

BC Soccer Assoc. held their 2016 Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet with Kjeld Brodsgaard elected the new president and Patrick Nelson the winner as BC Soccer’s Adult Player of the Year. Brodsgaard succeeds outgoing president Roger Barnes, who was presented with BC Soccer Assoc. Life Membership after serving four years as the provincial soccer association’s president.

Westhills Stadium & Goudy Park in Langford hosted the 2016 BC Soccer Adult Provincial Cup Finals. It was a thrilling weekend of soccer on Vancouver Island that saw seven champions crowned. Richmond FC & Surrey Pegasus qualified for the National Championships this Fall in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Both Coquitlam Metro-Ford Masters & Classics sides qualified for the Western Canadian Masters Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In all, it was a clean sweep for teams from the VMSL & MWSL. Monique Lamoureux & Bill Currie from BC Soccer Web were on location that weekend, capturing the all the action.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2’s leading goal-scorer from a year ago Marco Bustos finally opened his 2016 goal-scoring account, and he did so with authority. Bustos tallied two goals in the first 23 minutes as WFC2 held on late to defeat the Swope Park Rangers 3-2 on Sunday at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. Vancouver’s 15-year-old prodigy Alphonso Davies tallied in the 80th minute, a crisp left-footed strike into the upper left of the frame, for his second tally of the year and ultimately the game-winner.
