WHITECAPS FC & MLS NEWS

Vancouver Whitecaps: New Year, New Them, New UsSoccer Shorts
The New Year promises to be an exciting time for both the Vancouver Whitecaps and (more importantly) this blog because I will be introducing levels of innovation and insight rarely seen in the current media climate and, to kick off these innovations, I’m introducing a brand new concept which I hope will even catch on amongst the wider public.

How the Vancouver Whitecaps Could Play a 3 Center Back FormationEighty-Six Forever
The solution to getting Morales, Techera, Bolanos, Manneh, Rivero, and Kudo on the field together without sacrificing defense. Is it possible?

SuperDraft: History of the 16th overall pick Whitecaps FC
Barring a trade, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will pick 16th in the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. That will be the club’s lowest-ever pick in the first round, which is the price to pay for enjoying their best MLS season to date in 2015.

Josh Yaro leads the way as Georgetown trio shine in Combine performance testsMLS
It may come as no surprise that Georgetown’s Josh Yaro – a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2016 MLS Superdraft – led the way. The Ghanaian-born defender finished second in the speed test, with a 3.93-second 30-meter dash, and came in No. 3 in the power test with a 31.5-inch vertical leap.

MLS Combine: Observations after first two rounds of gamesSBI
More goals, less nerves, and better soccer. Day 2 of the 2016 MLS Combine is in the books, and it was drastically better than the first round of matches. Stocks have gone up and down after two days of action, and here are how some of players have done so far.

The Combine Interview: SuperDraft decisions often come down to thisMLS
“You’d be shocked how many kids don’t watch the league. For me, that’s kind of a little bit of a turnoff. You’re here at a Combine for MLS, you should know the players in the league, the players at the position you play, who you’re going to be competing with. If you have no idea who plays center midfield for the Philadelphia Union and you’ve never heard of Mo Edu, it puts up a little bit of, not of a red flag, but it’s something that you weigh in.”

Ethan Finlay Gets a Contract Extension from Columbus Crew SC Columbus Crew
When you score 23 goals and add 20 assists in two seasons and are statistically in the same company as Robbie Keane and Bradley Wright-Phillips, it only makes sense that Ethan Finlay should get a contract extension. Timewasting: MLS Team Of The Week #27 – David Bowie XIAFTN
As regular readers and listeners will know, we love our music just about as much as our football here at AFTN. It’s just a piece of nonsense, and it’s not even all that particularly funny or good, but as it now stands it’s my tribute, in my own way, to one of my favourites, so sit back, get your make up on, dig out some tracks and enjoy today’s “MLS Team Of The Week” – the The David Bowie XI.
