Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Saturday that the club has acquired midfielder/forward Brek Shea from Orlando City SC in exchange for midfielder/forward Giles Barnes.

Shea joins the Whitecaps after two seasons in Orlando that saw him shift between winger and wing back. The former FC Dallas star is a two-time MLS All-Star and has made 34 senior appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team. Last season, Shea started 22 matches, contributing three goals and two assists.

Whitecaps FC expand Northern Academy to Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat – Whitecaps FC
Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that the club’s Northern Academy Centre network has expanded west to include programs in Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Kitimat. The new programs are in partnership with the Prince Rupert Youth Soccer Association (PRYSA), the Terrace Youth Soccer Association (TYSA), and the Kitimat Youth Soccer Association (KYSA). They join current programs at the main Northern Academy Centre in Prince George, as well as the Cariboo.

Westhills Stadium & Goudy Park in Langford hosted the 2016 BC Soccer Adult Provincial Cup Finals. It was a thrilling weekend of soccer on Vancouver Island that saw seven champions crowned. Richmond FC & Surrey Pegasus qualified for the National Championships this Fall in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Both Coquitlam Metro-Ford Masters & Classics sides qualified for the Western Canadian Masters Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In all, it was a clean sweep for teams from the VMSL & MWSL. Monique Lamoureux & Bill Currie from BC Soccer Web were on location that weekend, capturing the all the action.

Canada have finished in 10th place at the 2017 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship following one week in Nassau, Bahamas. Canada posted two wins, one draw, and three losses in six matches, falling 5:6 after extra time in the match for 9th place against 2015 CONCACAF runners up Costa Rica.
