VISL Division 1 Results & Standings, Week 13

The past weekend was all compacted into one day, and Saturday was a busy one in the top flight of the Island Soccer League.
It had a little bit of everything; more draws, an “upset” from a draw, a couple games where the unexpected happened and almost huge upsets took place.

Needless to say, it was an exciting weekend.

Here is the quick snapshot of results in Week 13:

-The opener in Powell River – one of the toughest places to play just because of the distance and all the challenges of going up the night before and trying to keep teams in control.
The game sounded like a beauty for the most part as home town Villa and Bays tied 3-3. Villa going up 3-0, then Bays scoring 3 in the last 17 minutes.
Villa goals by Kye Taylor and 2 for Jake Kenmuir.
Bays goals by Patrick Nelson and Chris Peereboom x 2.

-The second game of the day had JDF and Vic West draw at 2-2.
JDF goals by John Hurrell and Ori Fisher.
Vic West goals were both scored by Stuart Heath.

-Nanaimo hosted Lakehill and had their hearts pumping as it turned into a 3-2 win for the division leading Lakehill team.
It was 2-2 into the second half, then Lakehill added the game winner at 76″
Nanaimo goals by Andres Algarin and Colin Jacques.
Lakehill goals by Bjorn Malahoff, Evan Wills, and Nicholas Pineda-Graham.

-The next game up in Ladysmith provided a surprise as Mid Isle and Cowichan drew to a scoreless 0-0 draw.
This gets Mid Isle their first point of the year.
In the mid Isle goal earning the shutout was Evan Carr.
For Cowichan, the shutout was sewn up by Darian Achurch.

-The final game of the night was the Game Of The Week and it was between 2 undefeated teams.
Westcastle did not disappoint as they defeated Gorge by score of 4-1.
The Westcastle goals were by Sean Young, Elliot Cuthbert, and Keenen Colley with 2.
The loan Gorge goal was scored by Sylvain Taghaoussi.
Game MVP honors going to Sean Young of Westcastle.

With scores inputted, here is what the table looks like after the weekend:

Lakehill stay atop the division after 13 weeks, a familiar spot from last year around this time.
Westcastle are in the background close-by in 2nd spot and looking to pounce – and are still undefeated.
Bays, Gorge, and Cowichan are all next up, and all suffered from their results on the weekend.
The bottom 5 remain the same with Nanaimo and Mid Isle in the relegation zone.

Plenty of goals over the weekend, so here is how the Goal Scoring leaderboard looks with Keenen Colley being the new man up top replacing Blaze Roberts.

And not to be outdone, a couple Keeper shutouts over the weekend has Darian Achurch now leading the Clean Sheets Leaderboard.

Another exciting weekend that was not so standard and provided plenty of story lines.
I’m sure next week will bring more to the table.
Next week is our last game before the Xmas break, hope to see you at the pitch supporting local soccer.
