I would like to voice my concern that the
BCSA seems to still be
very biased towards excluding private "for profit" soccer academies.
I don't get it: as a parent I simply want the best environment for
my child to be challenged in, to grow as a soccer player, and to not
feel like his soccer game is being impeded by the petty politics
that happens at the league level.
From following this issue for the last several years, it feels to me
like the BCSA can't accept that private academies are good for
soccer: they encourage and foster interest in the game, and that is
good for the entire soccer community. It seems like the more
opportunities there are for soccer to grow in Canada, the better it
is for all of us.
Academies aren't going away.
For many parents, as was noted in your discussion paper, we have the
money to spend, and if push comes to shove, I will spend it at the
location where my child will be challenged at an appropriate level.
His league has never been able to provide this, so we are happy that
we have the choice of an academy that provides us with this
environment. His league team is happy to be the benefactor of his
the skills he learns in his academy as it helps them all to have
stronger players to play with.
Sincerely,
Bruce Robinson
