Over the last few years, the 2004 generation of Canadian players have benefited from a truly development-minded set of coaches. Rival clubs or not, the development team coaches in this age group across the Lower Mainland maintain an informal telephone and email list and use it continuously to set up exhibition and jamborees. This, in addition to the countless practices, and league games.
The development-first mentality of this age group’s coaches is beginning to truly take form. Case in point? All 8 semi-finalists participating in both divisions of this weekend’s Baker Blast tournament in Bellingham were Canadian teams! This was not accomplished at other age groups in the tournament.
